Quality Infrastructure for the Circular Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean

This publication presents the characteristics, components, and field of action of the quality infrastructure through its organizations at the regional and local scales, which are useful for communication and outreach to non-specialized audiences in this field.

Its main contribution is the identification of needs presented by the circular economy and in which quality infrastructure through reliable measurements, traceability of processes, comparability of information, among other aspects, can make a specific contribution. Annexes include three case studies on WEEE (Ecuador), biodegradable cleaning supplies (Costa Rica), and validation of polymer products (single-use plastic bags) (Mexico).

The study was funded by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in the framework of the Quality Infrastructure for the Circular Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean (2020-2023) project, which has three Working Groups: Plastics, Construction, and Agrifood.
