Quality Infrastructure for the Circular Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean

This publication presents the characteristics, components, and fields of action of the quality infrastructure and also the implementing organizations at the regional and local levels.

It identifies the needs in the transition to a circular economy and how quality infrastructure can respond to them, e.g. through reliable measurements, traceability of processes, and comparability of information, among other aspects.

This report includes three case studies:

1) the case of WEEE (Ecuador),  2) the case of biodegradable cleaning supplies (Costa Rica), and  3) the case of the validation process of polymer products (single-use plastic bags) (Mexico).

The study has been financed by the “Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt” (PTB) in the framework of the Quality Infrastructure for the Circular Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean (2020-2023) project (QICA), which has three Working Groups: Plastics, Construction, and Agrifood.
