UNEP and Universidad de los Andes to support university students with sustainable business ideas in Latin America

The competition, aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, seeks entrepreneurial projects that promote a sustainable lifestyle to reduce the environmental footprint of human activities on the planet. Participants must submit ideas that are in the initial prototype phase in one of the following categories: food, shopping, mobility, leisure, and housing. With this initiative, UNEP and the Universidad de los Andes will support feasible proposals that contribute to the economic recovery of the region and at the same time promote transformations in favor of environmental sustainability.

Interested students can submit their applications until August 27, 2021. At the final stage, ten finalists will participate in an intensive three-day workshop given by the Entrepreneurship Center of the Universidad de los Andes to refine their proposals. Three winners will receive funding and advice for developing their projects.

The competition is organized with the support of the UNEP project “Boosting sustainable consumption in Latin America with better information and product design” funded by the European Union and the Global Opportunities for SDGs (GO4SDGs) initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
