On Wednesday, September 13, a virtual event led by the Circulate Initiative and the Global Plastic Action Partnership teams will convene public and private stakeholders. The event’s aim is to delve into the opportunities and challenges surrounding investments in the circular economy for plastics, with a specific focus on success stories and favorable regulatory environments. The objective is to enhance comprehension of sectoral dynamics, the impact of policies, and the advancement of investments in the circular economy for plastics in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Plastic pollution is a global problem with serious consequences, especially in vulnerable regions with a lack of recycling systems and a circular economy, as well as limited financial resources and technical assistance. In 2020 alone, 3.7 million tons of plastic pollution from Latin American and Caribbean countries will reach the oceans.
The event will be open to the general public, with a special focus on the following group of audiences:
- Investors in ESG, sustainability, and plastics initiatives.
- National and regional waste management / circular economy/plastics decision-makers from governments.
- Senior executives from corporations and brands with a significant plastic footprint.
- Senior executives from development finance institutions (DFIs).
- Representatives from regional NGOs and impact organizations.
